On November 23, Huron Shores Hospice took possession of their second room, to add an additional bed at the Hospice.
Ryan Plante from UBC Local 2222 was present in the morning to assess what work needed to be done to transform the space into a comfortable, loving and home-like space for future residents and their families. A list has been made, materials ordered and work is set to begin as soon as possible.
Members of the UBC Local 2222 are donating their time to do the work, but have also offered to foot the bill for many of the upgrades needed.
In the past two and a half years the Hospice has had to turn away 19 families who wanted to reside in the suite, but the bed was already occupied.
“This breaks our heart every time this happens,” said Carol Rencheck, Co-Chair, Huron Shores Hospice. “Having the second room open will help us better support our community, which includes Saugeen Shores, Kincardine and Huron-Kinloss, and hopefully not have to say no to any families.”
“Thank you to the community, who made this second phase of our dream come true,” she added. “We couldn’t do what we do without you.”
